Midsouth Medical CEO Becky Jones (center, with scissors) cuts the ribbon Tuesday morning at the grand opening of Midsouth Medical's new retail location at 1475 Dorchester Drive. The store carries a wide variety of supplies for medical professionals, including scrubs, shoes and accessories. In addition, they carry in-home products designed for older residents to help them remain mobile and independent longer including items for bathroom safety, power mobility, lift chairs, oxygen and Cpap/Bipap equipment.

Alexandria Housing Authority Executive Director Stephan Fontenot (center with scissors) and former Housing Authority Director Joe Page cut the ribbon Friday morning, Feb. 25, 2022, for the grand re-opening of the Charles Hayward Activity Center at 2586 Loblolly Lane. The center is named in honor of the former Peabody High School basketball star who played in the facility as a youth. Hayward, who was a top 100 basketball prospect out of high school and played college ball at the University of North Carolina Charlotte, passed away in 1999 at the age of 21 from leukemia.

LSUA College of Business Presenting Free SEBD Certification Class

Louisiana State University of Alexandria College of Business will host a free Small and Emerging Business Development (SEBD) Certification class from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 9. The program will be conducted online via ZOOM.


Heidi Melancon, Director, LSBDC at the University of Louisiana Lafayette, will be the presenter. Evelyn Jones, Business Consultant LSBDC with LSUA will be the co-presenter.

Inglewood Farm Opens New High Tunnel

Inglewood Farm President Elizabeth Keller (center, with scissors), cuts the ribbon Feb. 10 at the High Tunnel at Inglewood Farm. High tunnels are polyethylene-covered structures used to cover plants to extend the growing season, allowing farmers to plant earlier or later in the season or year-round. 

Inglewood Farm plans to plant traditional vegetables such as tomatoes, beans, peppers and squash at first to extend their growing season. In the future, they plan to use the high tunnel to grow specialty crops such as ginger, turmeric and pineapples.

Girl Scouts Formally Launch Cookie Sales

Brownie Scout Evelyn St. Romain, with the assistance of her mother Caitlin St. Romain (center, with scissors), cuts the ribbon Monday morning to kick off Girl Scout Cookie sales in Alexandria. Members of the Girl Scouts of Louisiana Pines to the Gulf Council will be delivering cookies to those who pre-ordered and will set up cookie booths throughout the community starting Friday to sell boxes of Girl Scout Cookies.
